ABOUT US
The horses we use in hippotherapy
    - are fully sound and healthy;
    - are schooled to a high standard, so that they are responsive to minute commands
      from the horse handler
    - are chosen for the quality of their movement in walk: in order to ensure best
      possible effects of hippotherapy, horses have to have an excellent natural
      movement in walk. Their walk has to be active, fluent and soft to prevent any jerky
      or jarring movement;
    - have an excellent character: they need to be willing to work in physically and
      mentally challenging circumstances. This means that they need to be forward-
      going without being excitable, distracted or easily spooked.
We currently work with two horses, Rowan
and Jet. Rowan is an 12 year old Welsh Cob
cross Fell gelding. He has been owned,
ridden and trained by Dorothée since he was
4 years old. This means that he has been
used to people with a disability from a young
age.
We have recently started to use Jet, our
younger horse, in hippotherapy. Jet is a very
brave and calm horse and loves people. He
still needs to learn not to be distracted by
other things and concentrate on his work.
Our work with horses is based on the
principles of natural horsemanship.
We respect our horses as living
beings and value them as key
members of the hippotherapy team.
Therefore, we take the physical and
mental welfare of our horses very
serious.
It’s very simple:
No horse, no hippotherapy.
