All our activities are based at
Titlington Training and
Demonstration Centre an
equestrian centre near Alnwick,
Northumberland, where we keep
our horse and hire facilities for
hippotherapy on a sessional basis.
There are disabled toilet facilities
and we have wheelchair ramp
access to the riding arena.
For reasons of health and safety
and optimum effectiveness,
hippotherapy takes place in a 20x40
metre indoor riding arena.
We had a custom-made platform built to help people with mobility
problems mount the horse. The platform has a wheelchair lift, so
that people with very limited mobility can access it and benefit
from hippotherapy.
Our assessments take place in a cottage on-site. In
spite of our extra-wide physiotherapy assessment
couch, we have been careful to create the
assessment space in such a way that it is not
“clinical”. We are, in fact, using what is the lounge of
a holiday cottage at other times. This way we hope
that patients of all ages feel positive about the
environment they are in and at ease, also during the
assessment.
We are very grateful for a grant towards key items,
such as our wheelchair accessible mounting platform,
which we received through the LEADER programme
from the European Regional Development Fund and
One North East.
