Natural horsemanship is an approach to keeping and working with horses
using “horse friendly” ways of communication. This means that we respect
our horses as herd animals and seek to understand them, and make
ourselves understood by them, with this in mind. This allows us to establish
a unique connection with our horses, so that they are wanting to work in
harmony with us as riders and when we handle them from the ground,
rather than us coercing them to do something they would rather not do.
Natural horsemanship avoids aggressive approaches and does not try to
suppress a horse’s natural instincts.
Natural horsemanship also means for us that we keep our horses on grass
livery. Our horses live in a small herd and have access to grazing and
water, and can express normal horse behaviour day and night.
