Alison Rushby
Support Worker,
Director, Horse Power for Ability
Alison trained as a musician and enjoyed 20 years working in
music education, first in the classroom and then as an adviser.
Her fascination with how people gain capability in music
developed into a generic interest in teaching and learning, which
took her into the broader field of educational quality and
management.
Early retirement from local authority work gave her the
opportunity to fulfil a lifelong desire to own horses and learn how
to care for and collaborate with them.
Inevitably, she began to explore how people can learn to ride and
has developed a second career as riding teacher. She also
trained as an exercise instructor in order to improve her
understanding and skills and delights in providing exercise
opportunities for older people.
With her expertise and skills, Alison is excellently placed to assist
Dorothée with patients in hippotherapy. She also works with
Dorothée to advise on and facilitate the transition of some of our
more able hippotherapy patients to riding as a leisure activity.
